APC | Lydd (EGMD)

Airspace

Lydd APC operates in solely Class G airspace. Lydd ADC is the controlling authority for the Lydd ATZ.

Inbound Procedures

On first contact, inbound aircraft shall be provided their expected approach time or no delay, and if required the ATIS letter and QNH.

APC shall maintain standard separation procedurally between aircraft placing themselves under the control of Lydd APC, until:

  • Control is transferred to ADC,
  • They are more than 10 minutes flying time from the aerodrome,
  • They no longer wish to receive a service,
  • Are transferred to London Control.

A procedural service must not be provided below the minimum sector altitude.

APC shall provide to ADC the following in regards to inbound aircraft on first contact:

  1. Aircraft callsign
  2. Aircraft type
  3. Expected approach time
  4. Approach type
  5. Approximate routing

APC shall also provide the following to ADC when reasonable:

  • Anticipated order of transfer
  • Anticipated delay to departing IFR flights
  • Missed approach instructions if required

APC shall also report to ADC when an aircraft is established on the final approach course or ILS.

Expected approach times

The landing intervals for Runway 21 from ROMTI are:

NDB(L) DME 12 minutes from ROMTI
RNP Y/Z 15 minutes from ROMTI
RNP Y/Z 10 minutes from IAF

For Runway 03, the RNP landing interval is 10 minutes from GOKAT/IAF.

Warning

Runway 03 is not available (for arrivals not in the visual circuit) when EGD044 is active.

Note

These timings are based on a PA-28, and so timings may differ slightly depending on inbound traffic.

Holding Procedures

Lydd APC is responsible for the following holds outside of controlled airspace:

If holding is inside CAS, APC must coordinate holding with TC SE.

Outbound Procedures

If a flight wishes to join the ATS route network, ADC will pre-note APC when they call for start, who shall coordinate with TC SE.
TC SE will issue a joining clearance with an initial route.
APC shall then relay the clearance, along with departure instructions, to ADC.

APC must provide a release to ADC for all IFR departures, and VFR departures within 5 minutes of an IFR departure/arrival.

Airways clearance and departure instructions

G-CCXC Hold position.
After departure Runway 21, left hand turnout, then own navigation direct WAFFU. Remain outside controlled airspace, [climb to altitude 5000ft], procedural service, squawk 2214. Next frequency when instructed, London Control 134.125.

Warning

After departure instructions must not instruct departures to enter active danger areas.

UK Flight Information Services

APC is encouraged, subject to controller workload, to provide a Basic Service to any traffic operating in the vicinity of Lydd that requests one.

APC is responsible for the provision of UK FIS for all aircraft outside of controlled airspace inbound to Lydd, and within 10 NM of the airfield.

APC is also responsible (along with London Information) for the provision of a SUAAIS within EGD044 (Lydd Ranges), EGD141 (Hythe Ranges), and the EGD098 (English Channel Temporary Danger Area) complex. When requested by a pilot, APC is to pass information as to the danger area status and known activity, in order to assist the pilot in determining if it would be unsafe to enter.
